Sheldon Silver ally recently fired as CEO of Met Council under investigation for shady donations to politicians

This is just another example of the money laundering scheme that Silver and the political bosses in Albany are involved in. You cannot tell me Silver and the whole lot of them did not know about this. All of it has been covered up for years and if we only had an Attorney General in this state with the guts to go after it, send people to jail because of it, it would have stopped years ago. ~Rus

William Rapfogel, one of Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver’s closest friends, is the target of three investigations of alleged financial improprieties.

For years, embattled Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver has had to answer for the misconduct of wayward Assembly members.

Now, one of his closest friends, the head of a powerhouse social services organization that Silver has helped to fund, is the target of three investigations of alleged financial improprieties.

For more than 20 years, William Rapfogel was the executive director and CEO of the Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty, an organization known as the Met Council. And for nearly 20 years, his wife, Judy, has been Silver’s chief of staff.

But earlier this month, the Met Council fired William Rapfogel for what it called “financial irregularities and apparent misconduct.”

Investigators are looking into whether Rapfogel overpaid the Met Council’s insurance provider, Century Coverage of Valley Stream, L.I., and then directed Century to make political donations to politicians who funded his organization.

They’re also looking into whether William Rapfogel pocketed kickbacks from the insurance provider.

An investigation by the Daily News has uncovered new evidence of Rapfogel helping politicians, apparently skirting a law that bars charities from getting involved in politics.
