Attempted Cover-up by Higgins and the Fed
Congressman Brian Higgins recently voted to impose massive tax increases on working Americans that will negatively impact our already shaky economy, starting January 2nd of 2013. To add insult to injury, Higgins, and the federal government he is part of, are now seeking to cover-up massive layoffs that will go into effect on January 2nd 2013, unless Congress votes to stop the automatic budget cuts on the same day. Appallingly, the federal government has provided guidance to ignore reporting requirements by government contractors, which requires 60 days notice to employees, prior to the massive layoffs.
This guidance, to break the law, was provided to prevent these notices from going public prior to the election, so that the voting public is not fully informed of the level of dysfunction that currently exists in Congress. If the public is notified and fully informed of these massive layoffs, incumbents’ reelection bids will be negatively impacted.
Mike Madigan, Congressional candidate for NY-26, has inquired about this attempt to deny workers this information that is legally required to be provided prior to such massive layoffs. Madigan has submitted a protest both with Democrat Representative Brian Higgins and with Republican Representative John Kline – Chairman of the House Education and Workforce Committee. Klein’s committee would be tasked with investigating any such breaches of the Federal Workforce Law (the WARN Act).
The WARN Act, requires businesses with more than 100 employees to give employees 60 days’ notice of mass layoffs or plant closings. Notices to employees of their layoff that are planned for January 2nd must be sent out no later than November 2nd as per the Warn Act. Violating the law and playing politics with people’s lives is unacceptable.
Message Subject: Breach of Law “Warn Act”
Message Text: Dear Mr. Higgins (and Mr. Cline):
Federal law, the WARN Act, requires businesses with more than 100 employees to give employees 60 days’ notice of mass layoffs or plant closings. The federal government has provided guidance to ignore this legal requirement. Will you take action to ensure this law is complied with so workers right to know are protected, laws are followed by the feds and voters are fully informed on 06-November?
