Supreme Court Ruling
on the Obama Health care plan
Buffalo NY – June 28 2012: The impact of today’s Supreme Court Ruling on the Obama Healthcare plan will resonate for many years to come. Draconian cuts to Medicare will result in rationing and lengthy delays of healthcare, impacting our most vulnerable seniors. The creation of a financially unsustainable program is irresponsible and jeopardizes the futures of our children.
This ruling has the following impact on Americans:
1) The plan ends Medicare as we now know it. The plan cuts Medicare by over $818 billion dollars as per the Wall Street Journal. A majority of seniors will be cut from the extremely popular Medicare Advantage plans.
2) The plan costs have exploded from $940 billion dollars to over $1.8 trillion dollars since enacted in 2009, and the plan does not go fully into effect until 2014. The President and Congress promised the cost would not exceed $1 trillion dollars.
3) The Supreme Court’s ruling that authorizes Congress to force citizens to buy private goods or face fines by redefining penalties for non-compliance as a tax, redefines the role of the Supreme Court, and sets a dangerous precedent for the future of America.
4) This constitutes the largest tax increase in U.S. history, and Representative Brian Higgins’ vote in support of this law demonstrates utter disregard for the proper role of government, for present economic conditions unable to sustain it and the overburdened taxpayer, who is unable to afford it.
Responsible healthcare legislation would include torte reform and an exploration of market-based solutions which include interstate competition and health-savings accounts.
Mike Madigan is a Congressional candidate for the newly formed New York District 26, which combines portions of former Districts 26, 27 and 28, due to population losses.
