WE NEED YOUR INPUT
Dear Friend and fellow member of TEANewYork,

We strongly urge you to take the Presidential Poll we created on the blog.  Carl Paladino and Rus Thompson have made no secret they support Newt Gingrich, but they want to know what YOU think, and are asking for your feedback.  So please take the poll, and leave your comments below it, here!

Love,
Jul

Medicaid Petition Update
–The deadline for signatures has been moved to the end of February.
–The “Opt Out Plan” has been added to the text of the original petition.

NYSAC is the originator of this petition.  See link below.  According to NYSAC,
“The bill’s passage would ensure New York’s Medicaid program becomes fiscally sustainable over the long run and would hold State lawmakers accountable for their program decisions to expand the size and scope of Medicaid. The State takeover of county Medicaid costs will lead to lower property taxes. This will directly enhance New York’s economic competitiveness and improve economic opportunities for all New Yorkers”

For all intents and purposes, the passage of A2285 and S1813, which is the “opt out bill” allowing counties to determine what benefits they will provide, is a more “practical” solution to resolving the the enormous economic burden of Medicaid and property taxes in NYS, as it would not rely upon faulty federal health care reforms to cover New Yorkers, as well as providing individual accountability at the county level.

Unfortunately, Change.org doesn’t recognize me any more and won’t answer my inquiries, so I am unable to post this information as an update on the petition itself!  But we still need as many signatures as we can muster up, so please sign it and pass it along:   TEANewYork: Shift the burden of Medicaid costs from the Counties to the State.

Any questions, please contact the Medicaid Petition Coordinator, Ellie Corcoran at ecorcoran1@roadrunner.com.

New Gerrymandered Districts
“What can I say, this is one of the most disgusting attempts at gerrymandering a district since we were stuck with Louise Slaughter. Problem is for Grisanti is, they left him with Grand Island…”

High court speaks on legislatures & redistricting
“I have a feeling that we will not see primaries this year. Redistricting fought in court then early primary date, all this is doing is dragging out the process then we will hear from them that there is no time for petitions, so their will be no chance of challenging them in a new early primary. They know that the senate is vulnerable this year and will try to block any and all challenges to their power. We will be blocked out of the process just like here in Erie County last year.”

NY Legislative Pay Raises: An Atrocious Abuse of the Public Trust

Posted on January 24, 2012
by Jul Thompson

“The State of New York has the most dysfunctional Legislature of all the 50 states.  One need not look any further for evidence of that beyond the fact that we have simultaneously, among the highest overall tax burdens and highest poverty rates of anywhere in the nation.  With the egregious amount the average taxpayer pays, our streets should be lined with gold.  Or flowers.  But certainly not trash, and pockmarked with potholes you can drive a small truck into….”

Slam Dunk Disqualified
Georgia citizens today [27Jan2012] delivered sworn testimony to a court that Barack Obama is slam-dunk disqualified from having his name on the 2012 presidential ballot in the state, because his father never was a U.S. citizen, which prevents him from qualifying as a “natural-born citizen” as the U.S. Constitution requires for a president….

Kutless
Kutless – Everything I Need

When every step is so hard to take
And all of my hope is fading away
When life is a mountain that I can not climb
You carry me, Jesus carry me.

You Are strength in my weakness
You are the refuge I seek
You are everything in my time of need
You are everything, You are everything I need

P.S.
Correction:
In the January 23rd Alert Strap Your Boots On, I had incorrectly noted Mickey (Kearns) for Mayor — he is in fact running for the 145th Assembly.  But nobuddy caught it!  Just goes to show you how many people read my Alerts.. shees.  (Tee-hee!)
